EVERY DROP OF WATER MATTERS. This is the meaningful message of the Training of Trainers (TOT) for the Save Water Advocacy Program (SWAP) and the Environmental Benefits and Commercial Uses of Bamboo co-hosted by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) and PhilCapNet. The TOT was held on 3 October 2019 in Baguio City. More than 100 participants from the private sector, water districts, national government agencies, local governments, academe and media joined the activity. Mr. Edgardo Manda, President of the Philippine Bamboo Foundation, erstwhile partner of PhilCapNet, spoke about the ecological services that bamboo plantations provide including prevention of water and soil erosion. He also highlighted the many livelihood opportunities that can be explored with a steady supply of bamboo at hand.
LWUA Administrator Jeci Lapus emphasized in his message that saving water is the responsibility of everybody. The Save Water Advocacy Program (SWAP) is LWUA’s way of raising awareness on the value of water and importance of water conservation, especially during the El Niño phenomenon.
At the end of the day, participants were ready to disseminate the campaign back to their respective communities to achieve the goals of hyping up the water conservation campaign and promoting the planting of bamboo to save the environment and create jobs.
